Make crispy, flavorful Chicken Parmesan quickly using your air fryer. This recipe provides a healthier alternative to deep frying while delivering a satisfying texture.
Prepare the chicken: Place the chicken cutlets between two sheets of plastic wrap and pound them to an even 1/2-inch thickness.
Set up the breading station: Place flour in one shallow dish. Whisk eggs in a second dish. Combine panko breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, oregano, salt, and pepper in a third dish.
Dredge each cutlet: Coat the chicken first in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into the egg mixture, letting excess drip off. Press firmly into the panko mixture to coat both sides completely.
Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (195°C) for 5 minutes.
Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the breaded cutlets in a single layer in the basket, ensuring they do not overlap. You may need to cook in batches.
Spray the tops of the cutlets generously with cooking spray to aid crisping.
Air fry for 10 minutes. Flip the cutlets carefully. Spray the second side with cooking spray.
Continue to air fry for another 5 to 8 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
Remove the cutlets from the air fryer. Top each cutlet with 1/4 cup of marinara sauce and a sprinkle of mozzarella and remaining Parmesan cheese.
Return the topped cutlets to the air fryer basket. Cook at 380°F (195°C) for 2 to 3 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Serve immediately over pasta or with a side salad.
Notes
For extra crispy results, let the breaded chicken rest in the refrigerator for 15 minutes before air frying.
Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket; this prevents the air from circulating and results in soggy breading.
Use high-quality marinara sauce for the best flavor.
