A recipe for making very crispy tofu cubes in an air fryer and coating them with a simple sweet chili glaze.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce or tamari
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Cooking spray (or 1 teaspoon oil)
  • 1/3 cup sweet chili sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar

Instructions

  1. Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess water. Wrap the block in paper towels or a clean cloth and place a heavy object on top.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes.
  3. In a medium bowl, gently toss the tofu cubes with cornstarch, soy sauce, garlic powder, and salt until evenly coated.
  4. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or brush with oil. Arrange the tofu cubes in a single layer in the basket, avoiding overcrowding. Work in batches if necessary.
  5. Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 12 to 15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, until the tofu is golden brown and crispy.
  6. While the tofu cooks, whisk together the sweet chili sauce and rice vinegar in a small bowl.
  7. Once the tofu is cooked, transfer the hot cubes to a clean bowl. Pour the glaze over the tofu and toss gently until every piece is coated.
  8. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, do not skip pressing the tofu thoroughly.
  • If you do not have cooking spray, lightly toss the coated tofu with 1 teaspoon of neutral oil before air frying.
  • You can add sliced bell peppers or broccoli florets to the air fryer during the last 5 minutes of cooking for a complete meal.
