Make crispy French toast sticks quickly in the air fryer, coated in a simple cinnamon sugar mixture. This recipe provides a fast, non-fried breakfast option.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 thick slices of bread (Texas toast or brioche recommended)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for the egg mixture)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for coating)
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon (for coating)
  • Cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread slices lengthwise into three equal sticks.
  2. In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, and 1 tablespoon of sugar until well combined.
  3. Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, allowing excess liquid to drip off. Do not soak the bread.
  4. In a separate small bowl, mix the 1/2 cup sugar and 1 tablespoon cinnamon for the coating.
  5. Lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  6. Place the coated sticks in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
  7. Lightly spray the tops of the sticks with cooking spray.
  8. Air fry at 375°F (190°C) for 6 minutes.
  9. Flip the sticks carefully, spray the second side lightly, and air fry for another 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Immediately transfer the hot sticks to the cinnamon sugar mixture and toss gently to coat all sides evenly.
  11. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For sticks that do not stick, ensure you lightly spray the air fryer basket before placing the first batch in.
  • If you prefer a thinner coating, roll the sticks in the cinnamon sugar mixture twice instead of tossing once.
  • Serve with warm maple syrup or a simple cream cheese glaze made from powdered sugar and a splash of milk.
