Ingredients
Scale
1 lb white or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
Wipe the mushrooms clean and slice them into uniform pieces.
Place a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to the hot skillet.
Add the mushrooms to the skillet in a single layer if possible. Cook without stirring for 3 to 4 minutes until they release their moisture and start to brown.
Stir the mushrooms and continue cooking until most of the liquid evaporates and they achieve a golden color, about 5 more minutes.
Reduce the heat to medium. Add the remaining 3 tablespoons of butter to the skillet.
Once the butter melts, add the minced garlic and fresh thyme leaves. Cook for 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
Stir in the salt and pepper. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
Remove the skillet from the heat. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
Notes
For best results, do not overcrowd the pan when sautéing the mushrooms; cook in batches if necessary.
Use fresh thyme for the strongest flavor; dried thyme requires less quantity.
These mushrooms pair well with steak, roasted chicken, or pork chops.
