Make a creamy, spiced iced coffee drink using homemade horchata for a refreshing summer beverage.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup prepared horchata (see notes for quick version)
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee or cold brew concentrate, chilled
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of ground cinnamon, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare your horchata base ahead of time and chill it completely.
  2. Brew your coffee or cold brew and allow it to cool to room temperature, then chill thoroughly.
  3. Fill a tall glass with ice cubes.
  4. Pour the chilled horchata over the ice.
  5. Slowly pour the chilled coffee over the horchata mixture.
  6. Stir gently to combine the layers.
  7. Add vanilla extract and stir once more.
  8. Garnish the top with a light dusting of ground cinnamon before serving.

Notes

  • For a quick horchata base, mix 1 cup of unsweetened almond or oat milk with 2 tablespoons of sugar (adjust to taste), 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Stir well until sugar dissolves.
  • Use strong coffee or cold brew for the best flavor balance against the sweet horchata.
  • If you prefer a thicker drink, use slightly less coffee or add 1/4 cup of crushed ice and blend briefly.
  • This recipe works well with espresso shots instead of brewed coffee.
