A recipe for refreshing iced tea featuring fresh strawberries, lemon juice, and a simple homemade syrup.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water (for syrup)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice
  • Ice cubes
  • Lemon slices and strawberry halves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the strawberry syrup: Combine the sliced strawberries, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and cook for 10 minutes, mashing the strawberries slightly. Remove from heat and let steep for 20 minutes. Strain the syrup through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing on the solids to extract liquid. Discard solids.
  2. Brew the tea: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and steep the 4 tea bags for 5 minutes. Remove tea bags.
  3. Combine: While the tea is still warm, stir in the prepared strawberry syrup and the fresh lemon juice. Stir well to combine.
  4. Chill: Refrigerate the tea mixture until completely cold, about 2 hours.
  5. Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the chilled strawberry lemon tea over the ice. Garnish each glass with lemon slices and strawberry halves.

Notes

  • Use green tea or white tea bags instead of black tea for a lighter flavor base.
  • For a stronger tea flavor, use a tea concentrate by doubling the tea bags and reducing the initial water amount to 2 cups, then add cold water after steeping to reach 4 cups total volume.
  • Adjust the amount of syrup based on your preference for sweetness.
