Make a fresh, balanced salsa featuring sweet pineapple and spicy habanero peppers, perfect as a topping for any taco filling.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups fresh pineapple, finely diced
  • 1 large habanero pepper, seeds and ribs removed, minced (use less for milder heat)
  • 1/2 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeds removed, minced (optional, for extra body)
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare all vegetables and fruit: dice the pineapple, mince the habanero and jalapeño (if using), and chop the onion and cilantro.
  2. Place the diced pineapple, minced peppers, chopped red onion, and cilantro into a medium mixing bowl.
  3. Squeeze the fresh lime juice over the mixture.
  4. Add the salt and pepper.
  5. Gently stir all ingredients together until they are well combined.
  6. Taste the salsa and adjust the salt or lime juice as needed.
  7. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For less heat, use only half of the habanero or substitute with a less spicy pepper like serrano.
  • This salsa pairs well with grilled fish, shrimp, chicken, or pork carnitas.
  • Store leftover salsa in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
