Score and stuff a loaf of bread with cheese and toppings, then shape and decorate it like a football for a fun, shareable appetizer perfect for game day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of frozen bread dough, thawed
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning (optional, for laces)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place the thawed bread dough on a lightly floured surface. Gently shape it into a football oval.
  3. Using a sharp knife, score the top of the dough in a football pattern, creating lines for the laces.
  4. Carefully slice the dough horizontally about two-thirds of the way down to create a pocket for the filling. Be careful not to cut all the way through.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the mozzarella cheese, cheddar cheese, and parsley.
  6. Stuff the cheese mixture into the pocket of the bread dough.
  7. Gently press the edges of the dough together to seal the filling inside.
  8. Place the football-shaped dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush the entire surface of the dough with the beaten egg.
  10. If desired, sprinkle the everything bagel seasoning along the scored lines to create the appearance of laces.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
  12. Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can add other fillings like pepperoni, cooked bacon bits, or jalapeños along with the cheese for extra flavor.
  • If the dough starts to brown too quickly, you can loosely tent it with aluminum foil.
  • For a crispier crust, you can brush the dough with a little melted butter after baking.
