Make simple, elegant tartines featuring thinly sliced radishes, high-quality butter, and a generous sprinkle of flaky sea salt on toasted artisan bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 slices artisan sourdough bread
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 1 bunch radishes (about 1 cup thinly sliced)
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt, plus extra for finishing
  • 1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest (optional)

Instructions

  1. If using, lightly toast the sourdough slices until they are firm but not hard.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the softened butter with the optional lemon zest and half of the chopped chives. Mix until just combined.
  3. Spread a generous layer of the prepared butter evenly over each slice of toasted bread.
  4. Arrange the thinly sliced radishes over the buttered bread. Overlap the slices slightly for better coverage.
  5. Sprinkle each tartine evenly with the flaky sea salt. Use more salt than you think you need for texture.
  6. Garnish with the remaining fresh chives, if using.
  7. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Use high-fat, European-style butter for the best flavor in this simple preparation.
  • For a slightly different texture, you can whip the softened butter with a fork until light before spreading.
  • Select radishes that are firm and crisp; trim the ends before slicing very thinly.
