Crispy smashed Brussels sprouts are a fun and flavorful way to enjoy a vegetable side dish. This recipe takes simple Brussels sprouts, cooks them until tender, smashes them flat, and then roasts them until they are delightfully crispy and golden brown.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound Brussels sprouts
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Add the Brussels sprouts and cook for 5-7 minutes, until tender.
  3. Drain the Brussels sprouts and let them cool slightly.
  4. Place the Brussels sprouts on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  5. Using the bottom of a glass or a potato masher, gently smash each Brussels sprout flat.
  6. Drizzle the smashed Brussels sprouts with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  7. Roast for 15-20 minutes, or until crispy and golden brown.

Notes

  • You can also make these in an air fryer at 380°F (190°C) for 10-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • Feel free to add other seasonings like garlic powder, onion powder, or a pinch of red pepper flakes.
  • Serve hot as a delicious side dish.
