A recipe for a refreshing, frozen beverage combining strawberries, fresh basil, and tart lemonade.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups frozen strawberries
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice (about 4-5 lemons)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, packed
  • 1 cup ice cubes (optional, for thicker slush)
  • 1/2 cup cold water (or more, for blending)

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: Combine sugar and 1/2 cup water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves completely. Remove from heat and let cool.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a blender, combine the cooled simple syrup, fresh lemon juice, frozen strawberries, fresh basil leaves, and 1/2 cup cold water.
  3. Blend until smooth: Blend the mixture until it reaches a smooth, slushy consistency. Add more cold water, one tablespoon at a time, if the mixture is too thick to blend.
  4. Adjust texture: If you prefer a thicker slush, add the ice cubes and blend again until incorporated.
  5. Serve immediately: Pour the Strawberry Basil Lemonade Slush into glasses and garnish with a basil leaf or a strawberry slice.

Notes

  • For a stronger basil flavor, muddle the basil leaves lightly before adding them to the blender.
  • To make this a cocktail, add 1.5 ounces of vodka or white rum per serving before blending.
  • If you do not have frozen strawberries, use fresh strawberries and add 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender.
