Make this refreshing, non-alcoholic mocktail that balances sweet strawberries with a kick of spicy jalapeno.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 small jalapeno, seeds removed (or more, to taste)
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled
  • Ice cubes
  • Lime wheel and thin jalapeno slice for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the simple syrup: Combine sugar and water in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves completely.
  2. Add the half jalapeno to the syrup. Remove from heat and let it steep for 15 minutes for mild heat, or longer for more spice. Remove and discard the jalapeno piece.
  3. Muddle the strawberries in a cocktail shaker or sturdy glass.
  4. Add 2 tablespoons of the jalapeno simple syrup and the fresh lime juice to the muddled strawberries. Stir well.
  5. Fill the shaker with ice. Shake until well chilled.
  6. Strain the mixture into an ice-filled glass (a rocks glass works well).
  7. Top with chilled sparkling water or club soda. Stir gently.
  8. Garnish your drink with a lime wheel and a thin slice of fresh jalapeno.

Notes

  • For a smoother texture, blend the strawberries with the syrup and lime juice, then strain before adding to the glass.
  • Adjust the amount of jalapeno in the syrup based on your preferred heat level.
  • Use a salt or sugar mixture on the rim of the glass for a classic margarita presentation.
